What it tests:
Your German skills at either the A2 or B1 level in three parts: In part one, your listening and reading comprehension are tested. Part two evaluates how well you can write a German letter. And part three is all about your verbal conversation skills.
Required for:
Your integration course certificate, permanent residency or German citizenship.
Good to know:
- You can pass with either A2 or B1
- Exam preparation is included in all our integration courses
- The exam takes place on Fridays and Saturdays
LiD • Test Leben in Deutschland
Life in Germany
€0 or €25 (Free with BAMF funding)
What it tests:
Your knowledge about German politics, history and society. You'll learn the correct answers to the 33 multiple-choice questions during your orientation course.
Required for:
Your integration course certificate, permanent residency or German citizenship.
Good to know:
- The test only takes one hour
- 300 general questions, 10 about the federal state you live in
- All questions and answers are publicly accessible
telc B1 exam

Your German B1 skills in two parts: In part one, your listening, reading and writing skills are tested. Part two evaluates your verbal conversation skills.
Required for:
Proving B1 when you can't take the DTZ for permanent residency or German citizenship.
Good to know:
- The certificate is widely accepted by government, universities and employers
- If needed, you can retake the written or verbal exam separately
- The exam takes place in a single day
